MLK Day Part2

Photolusion

This Photolusion was created by taking several pictures and then merging them together. The background is just an oldphoto of the clouds I had taken earlier. The guitar I held by the strap and took the photo with a timer set on my Nikon D3100. I masked out the background in Photoshop. I then added a photo of myself shot with a self timer again. I posed for the image so that it would appear I was hanging from the guitar. I then cut out the photo of myself and masked out my arms so I appeared to hang on. This is a fun example of Photolusion, and the final step was to add the birds!

This is a sample page from my photobook using clipping masks to easily format my pictures for the design I have made. Using clipping masks makes the layout easy to apply to any photos I want to add to any page. I used the shape tool to draw the box the size I wanted my photos to be, then I placed my photos in the layers above the shape and right-clicked them and choose Make Clipping Mask. This hides whatever portion of the photo overlaps my shape. It gives my layout and photos a clean, sharp, and professional touch.

Week in Photos

Can Do     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/5.6     Shutter: 1/8 sec     Date: 3/19/2011    5:09 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

I was playing around with my Nikon and I thought taking a macro shot of the bright red can with the blue background behind it would look cool. It reminded me of a set up for an advertisement a little, which I thought was cool. I think it is interesting how the blue behind really makes the red color in the can stand out.

Parking Lot Light     Taken with: Nikon D3100    Aperture: f/4.5     Shutter: 4 sec.     Date: 3/20/2011    7:30 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

It was raining and I was out in the parking lot with my camera and I thought it would be interesting to get a shot of the snow piled up with the lights around. It was really dark and as I said raining so it took a long exposure to work. It was fairly miserable standing in the weather but it was fun to see how it turned out.

Friday Night     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/4.5     Shutter: 1/80 sec     Date: 3/21/2011    6:40 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

There were some amazing clouds in the sky and I wanted to capture them really bad, so I was taking lots of photos of the sky. I kept walking and I came to these mailboxes and I thought they looked awesome in the sunset. The clouds were just amazing though.

Another Brick in the Wall     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/8    Shutter: 1/80 sec    Date: 3/22/2011    6:15 p.m.   Location: Rexburg, ID

I was looking at the structure of the bricks in this doorway and I thought they made a really interesting shape. I wanted to bring that shape out so I moved to where the sun caught the edge and highlighted the shape nicely.

Reflections     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/4.5    Shutter: 1/25 sec     Date: 3/23/2011   6:23 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

I was looking for good photo opportunities near my apartment and the light was really reflecting in these puddles of water near this apartment complex. I loved the orange light and the glow in the water.

Perspective     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/4.8     Shutter: 1/100 sec     Date: 3/24/2011   2:12 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

I was waiting for my sister and I had my camera and I really liked the different viewpoints created by all the reflections. There are new perspectives created by the mirror, the window, and the car window in the mirror. I thought it was pretty cool.

Signs of Spring     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/4.5     Shutter: 1/4 sec     Date: 3/25/ 2011    9:53 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

It was raining and the rain was turning into snow and I was standing outside. I thought the lights were really cool in the back being different colors. It was an interesting moment with the weather and lights.

Dark Tree     Taken with: Nikon D3100     Aperture: f/3.5     Shutter: 4 sec     Date: 3/26/2011    11:58 p.m.    Location: Rexburg, ID

It was pitch black almost when I took this shot. It was also snowing. I wanted to try and have the area lights light up the tree that I could barely make out with my eye. It took a long exposure t0 accomplish but it had an interesting effect I thought.

Final Poster

After the OK Corral. I used scanogaphy to create this image. I scanned an image of myself and then of some swedish fish. To create this edited final image, I duplicated both images and set the blending mode to Color Dodge. I then merged these layers. Then I again duplicated the original images and set this blending mode to Color Burn. I then merged the layers. I set the top layer blending mode to Overlay to get the final effect.
I picked this as my poster because the strong contrast and intensitiy that is present. It is very dramatic and enthralling. It was an impressive process to come to the final image through different editing and it turned out just amazing. It is by far my favorite work from the semester.

This was another image I thought would make a cool HDR, so I made one more and I thought it turned out great.

HDR Image

I combined the above image with a version that was overexposed and a version that was underexposed in Dynamic Photo HDR to create this HDR image.

Floored    Taken with: Nikon D3100    Aperture:f/5.6    Shutter: 1/60 sec    Date: 2/26/2011    Location: Bannack, MT

Old Stove    Taken with: Nikon D3100    Aperture: f/4.5    Shutter: 1/60 sec    Date: 2/26/2011     Location: Bannack, MT

Blended: I used the color burn blending mode to blend the shot of the floor with the image of the stove. I thought it had the most interesting effect as it creates more vibrant colors blended than a simple overlay.

Branded Wall     taken with: Nikon D3100    Aperture:f/5.6    Shutter: 1/50 sec    Date: 2/26/2011    Location: Bannack, MT

Blended Image: I again used the Color Dodge blend mode as it really blended the images together well and in an interesting way. The overlay mode was also interesting but the vibrance of the color dodge is just so much more eye catching.

I used the difference blending mode to create this image.
